What’s In This Issue
Your website’s one job is to turn visitors into calls or leads. If anything slows that down or creates confusion, you lose business.
Most trade business websites don’t fail because they look bad. They fail because they miss small details that directly impact calls and form submissions.
This is a simple checklist you can run through in about 30 minutes to see what’s working, what’s broken, and what might be costing you jobs.
1. Check Your Site on Mobile and Desktop
Most people will find you on their phone.
Open your site on your phone and ask:
Does the site load fast
Can you read the text without zooming?
Are buttons easy to tap?
Then check desktop:
Does it look clean and professional?
If your mobile experience is off, get someone to fix it.
2. Your Phone Number Is Easy to Find
Someone visiting your site should see your number right away.
Check:
Top of the page on desktop
Near the top on mobile
When I tap the number does it open a call icon? This is a must.
If someone has to look for it, you’re making it harder than it needs to be.
4. Your Forms Actually Work
This breaks more often than people think.
Fill out your own form and submit it.
Check:
Do you receive the email message?
Does it go to spam?
If this isn’t working, leads are getting lost without you knowing.
5. It’s Clear What You Do
Within a few seconds, someone should know:
Who you are
What services you offer
Where you operate
If that’s not obvious, people leave.
6. Navigation Is Simple
Your menu doesn’t need to be complicated.
Keep it to the basics:
Home
Services
About
Contact
If someone has to think about where to click, that’s a problem.
7. Services Are Clearly Listed
Don’t keep this vague. Instead of just saying “Plumbing Services,” list what you actually do but do not limit it. So you can use the list below for example but say, and many other services as well.
Drain cleaning
Water heater repair
Leak detection
Many other services as well
This helps both customers and search visibility.
8. You Have Customer Proof on the Site
People want to know others had a good experience before they call. This can be done by adding a few testimonials or reviews to reduce hesitation.
10. Your Site Is Secure (HTTPS)
Your URL should start with https://. If it doesn’t, browsers may show warnings and people may avoid submitting forms. People will instantly leave.
11. Your Service Area Is Clear
Make it obvious where you work by listing cities and areas you serve.
If someone isn’t sure you cover their location, they’re less likely to reach out.
12. Basic Questions Are Answered
Think about what someone would want to know before calling and answer these upfront to make the next step easier.
Do you offer emergency service?
Are you licensed or insured?
How quickly can you respond?
Moving the Needle
If you only fix one thing, focus on this:
Make your phone number easy to find, clickable, and supported by a clear call-to-action at the top of your site.
That alone can increase calls.
What to Do Next
You or someone on your staff goo through this checklist on your own site today.
If you find a few issues, fix them.
If you find a lot, your site is likely costing you business.
Once this is dialed in, everything visit will make more money.
